Eight reasons innovators should pay attention to SXSW

March 3, 2015

SXSW Interactive can be a doorway to fresh ideas and knowledge sharing to fuel innovation initiatives.

If you want to innovate with emerging technologies, you can’t operate in a vacuum within your organization. You need to bring the outside in. Over the years I’ve found that SXSW Interactive can be a doorway to fresh ideas and knowledge sharing that fuels innovation initiatives long after the crowds have dispersed. Here are eight things to pay attention to if you’re in Austin, TX next week.

Explore an array of emerging technologies

Emerging technologies are speeding down the pike at such as dizzying pace that it’s almost impossible to keep up. At SXSW, you can explore technologies that could hold promise for your business such as 3D printing, artificial intelligence, Internet of Things, and wearables, to name a few. It’s like spending a few days in one of the world’s largest emerging technology labs.

Be inspired

SXSW is teeming with some of the brightest business minds in the world beyond your company’s water cooler. Whether in person or online, you can engage in rich conversations with leading executives in the areas of customer experience, technology, marketing and innovation, who will inspire you to take risks and think big.

Power up your prototyping skills

Prototyping is a popular topic at SXSW interactive and it’s evolving. Prototyping is changing the way we do strategy and innovation for our clients.  It’s never been more important to power your prototyping skills with unprecedented speed. At SXSW, you can learn the latest approaches from the best digital disruptors.

Get ahead of the news

SXSW participants live, breathe, work and innovate inside the tech bubble—so what you hear and learn is usually a couple of years ahead of news feeds. Get out in front of technology trends and gain an edge over your competition.

Tap into the energy

Innovators gather in one place to engage in a collective conversation that helps shape business and culture for the coming year and beyond. SXSW can be your opportunity to be a part of that and be influenced by the sharing.

Experience a daily torrent of demos

Seeing is believing, and demos help innovators show the enterprise how they can accomplish business goals through hands-on exploration of emerging technology. At SXSW, you can get examples in spades of how to do demos right.

Break bread across industries, technologies

You can learn a lot by listening to the challenges that other industries are facing. The SXSW gathering is a melting pot—across different industries, and technologies that can’t be replicated at that depth.

Spark conversations with your colleagues back at the office

After the event, you should be able to bring back invaluable insight to spark conversations among colleagues and clients that put you in the know and charge up your innovation initiatives.

I’m looking forward to the SXSW experience to help inform and inspire real business innovation. If you’ll be in Austin next week too, be sure to check out our PwC presentations.
